On yesterday’s show Myisha and I talked about the practice of throwing money at the pulpit while the preacher is preaching. Is this an act of reverence/gratitude or is this payment for entertainment. I gave an example that in my opinion this practice is very similar to throwing money at strippers when they are entertaining on stage. I just don’t see the purpose of doing it! Why throw money at the pulpit? Why not do as one caller suggested and throw your money in your tithe envelope! I don’t see this as an appropriate practice in worship. Further, I think that some people who do throw money during sermons are looking for attention – not trying to express genuine gratitude to God. If you really want to show gratitude to God for what is being preached REPENT! Change your ways! Apply the principles to your life! Don’t throw money. Think about how many people become distracted by someone running down and throwing money. I read somewhere in the NT about Paul discouraging people from speaking in “tongues” unless there was someone there to interpret what was being said. Why wouldn’t the same logic apply to the practice of throwing money at the pulpit? Unless the preacher is going to stop and explain what is happening AND where the money is going (ie an Outreach program, the church, their wallet) then they don’t need to encourage that type of practice. Well, what do you think? Do you agree with throwing money at the pulpit or do you see it as something that needs to be done away with during worship time? I fully agree with you. I believe that the practice of throwing money at the preacher is a practice that should be ended in the church. Not only is it a distraction to other worshippers, it makes it seem as though the person throwing the money is not being respectful of God. We are to believe that the sermons that are given by man (the pastor) are God-inspired. So when people throw money on the altar to show appreciation for the word that they have received, they are in effect “paying” God for His services. And we know that material things mean NOTHING to God! We cannot show appreciation to God by giving Him material things. The only way that we can directly show appreciation to God is by righteous living, by obedience and through praise and worship. Tithing, on the other hand, is a requirement, not a choice and therefore shouldn’t be given as a response to hearing a “good word”. It is something that you are SUPPOSED to do, regardless of what you have received! Sacrificial giving is supposed to be given out of dedication to God for the uplift of the Christian community, not as “gift” to God. And this type of giving is supposed to be given privately, not publicly Matthew 6:2-4 says ” So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
another case of “pimps in the pulpit” church members are as lambs being led to the slaughter.they are exhalting a man who has a gift of gab.that is all a lot of so called pastors don’t believe half the stuff that they preacdthey look at preaching as a way to make money off the ignorance of their congregations.wake up people!!
