Faith In Action says Goodbye!

Well, we made it to 10 months and that’s an accomplishment in and of itself. When we started the “Faith In Action Show, we knew that people weren’t going to instantly warm up to it. Like many of you we’ve grown up listening to gospel music on Sunday morning – not radio talk shows. However, we were so glad that people eventually began to see the significance of what we were trying to do. We have some major issues going on in our communities and in the world. Myisha and I feel that it was imperative that “Christian folk” began to discuss the very important issues that were going on. We were trying to make it popular to be a “social activist Christian” – a Christian who can go to church and shout with the best of them and then go to their neighborhoods and engage the “real” issues that were impacting the old and young alike. We also were speaking to the Christians who are tired of “Church as usual”. Don’t tell my pastor, but I was getting so tired of waking up on Sunday morning, putting on my church clothes, going to church, singing/shouting/preaching and then going home. I began to think to myself “there must be more to being a Christian than this“. We know that there are other Christians out there who feel like that. Thanks for listening to the show and YES there is more to being a Christian than going to church and church conferences.

July 2005 will be Faith In Action’s last month for a full hour program. Starting August 2005, Elder Dewayne Johnson will host Gospel Grace from 5am to 11am. Angela “The Duchess” Thorpe will continue the good gospel music from 11am to 3pm.

Thank you so much for your support of the show. Without you, we couldn’t have done it. Like Jesus requesting 1 hour of prayer & watchfulness in the Garden of Gethsemane; you allowed us 1 hour to ask some pretty complex questions and raise some very important issues. You allowed us to bring organizations, movements, community activists, preachers, and youth on the air who normally would not have opportunity to raise awareness about their issue. Though the show in its current form will end, please continue to participate in “Faith In Action” activities in your life. THE WORLD NEEDS INFORMED, EDUCATED, BALANCED, ACTIVIST CHRISTIANS.

So let us have it! Give us your comments about Faith In Action! The good, the bad, and the ugly. What was your favorite Faith In Action moment, segment, or interview? WHAT SHOULD WE DISCUSS OR COVER DURING OUT LAST MONTH? Click “comments” below and type your response.

Thanks for everything,
Myisha & Heber

I always listen to the show. I am praying that God would continue to use that ministry. The show is on the cutting edge and we need it.

Sunday night may actually be a better time, but at 11:00am that would be bad. Please keep me informed on how it turns out. I think Sunday night would make your show very accessible.

I’m going to miss F. I. A. because it brought the thoughts of the people to the forefront and gave the people a way to air their grievances about things that was going on in their community and let their thoughts be heard all over the community which was a good thing. But since F. I. A. will be off the air how will the people now get their thoughts heard all over the community?
But I love all of you, God Bless all of you and job well done. Julian

Personally Im sick o actin like it aint no serious issues out there in the Gospel / church community…I may be takin this way too far but I feel like we usin gospel music to cover up our issues in ourselves and in our community and dance and shout our way into livin lives of quiet desparation…Im sick of puttin on the happy face we need to stop shoutin so much and TALK about some real stinkin ISSUES…

I ain’t been saved all my life and really I ain’t been saved that long, so please excuse me if this offends some of ya’ll.

Nate, your comment reminds me of a piece by The Last Poets…that piece where they said, “Niggas will party and bullsh*t and party and bullsh*t”. The dancing, shouting, and puttin on the happy face allows the “bullsh*t” to continue in the church & our communities.

We got 50% of Black boys droppin’ out of school / an AIDS epidemic among our teens / unsafe streets & vacant buildings and we need more MUSIC? That’s as crazy as O’Malley tellin’ us to BELIEVE.

I’m with you Nate. We need more TALK…and the type of TALK that eventually transforms into action.

    Signed,

    Dear Heber,

I wanted to let you know that you and Myisha are really
remarkable. I have been so encouraged by the African affairs coverage by your show over the years. Africa Action has seen a concrete benefit of the coverage in terms of the activism that it has generated from pastors
in Baltimore on the critical issues facing the African continent. I understand that you will be going off the air soon, and I just wanted to let you and the other people at the station know that your work has been greatly appreciated and we are VERY sorry to see you go. It is my hope and prayer that this will only be a temporary change and that you will soon be back up and running on the air.

Thanks again for your great work!

    Peace,

    Hey Heber,

Just thinking about you. How are you? I am gonna miss your show on 88.9. I would always listen in the car during the times I went to the 8a.m. service at my church. Ira Bell is gone too! Man! I'm gonna miss yall! It's like the classics are gone.

I and also my pals ended up looking through the best information from your web site then unexpectedly came up with a terrible feeling I had not thanked you for those secrets. All of the young boys are actually for this reason joyful to learn all of them and already have certainly been loving these things. I appreciate you for really being quite accommodating and for picking varieties of incredibly good topics most people are really eager to be aware of. My very own honest apologies for not expressing appreciation to sooner.
