Faith in Action

So in watching the news yesterday I saw that YOUR president, George Bush, took time out of his vacation to travel to Illinois to sign the SAFETEA BILL into law. The bill is supposed to enhance our country’s transportation infrastructure. Now why should we even care about this….and why I am blogging about it right now? Good question. Well, I’m really concerned about this bill (law now) because it had a record number of “pet” projects included by politicians who wanted some good p.r. to aid them when it comes time to run for office again.

There were more than 6,000 “pet projects” (i.e. the projects that only benefited a few people) costing taxpayers 24.1 million dollars. I’m sorry…I typed that wrong… 24.1 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!! A HUGE waste of money at our expense. For more information about how your money will be used click here.

Uh oh…I sense that question again “Why does this matter to me?”

Ok ok…this is why…in basic language - our political system is wack, but it’s not wack because of the elected officials. Yes, some of them are money hungry, selfish, deceptive and flat out demonic - I gotcha. But the system is wack because the American people don’t hold the elected officials accountable. We don’t. We keep voting them in year after year because after a while their name becomes familiar and when we’re in the voting box we see their name and go “Oh - I know that name” and the deal is done. They’re right back in office continuing with their evil ways. So I don’t blame them. I blame us.
