Faith In Action for the victims of Hurricane Katrina

During times like this I wish had my radio show still so that I could share information with thousands of Christians at the same time about how they can help those who are trying to recover from the devastation that Hurricane Katrina caused. However, instead of hearing news about how they can help - Christians here in Bmore will probably hear more music on Sunday morning and very little about anything else going on in the world.
Anyway - for those of you out there who check out this blog - first I want to say thanks. I really appreciate your support, but now I need a favor. If you already haven’t decided to - I need you to really consider helping out the victims of KATRINA.
Please pray for those affected because they definitely need prayer, but AFTER YOU PRAY - consider some action.
Toward that end, I found a website that may be a good starting point for you. CLICK HERE to go to Network for Good. There you’ll find opportunities to help not only those impacted by KATRINA, but also those in Sudan, Asia, Niger and other places. You may also want to consider visiting the Red Cross’ website ,Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention or The Tom Joyner Morning Show for opportunities to help, however, please beware of scams.
Just as a side note: it’s being emailed around that Bishop Paul Morton lost his house and his church has been severely damaged as well in the wake of the storm. It’s also being emailed around that Bishop Larry Trotter is assisting in the relief effort by organizing a push for donations from the Black church in particular.
I know that some of you may be saying, “What can I do, I’m only ONE person”. But don’t think of it like that. Yesterday, 54 people visited this site. If all 54 of those people plus me - that makes 55 people would commit to help out in our own little way. We can make a huge impact on not only those in need in this country, but also around the world.
At the very least, you can click the “envelope” image below and forward this request to your family and friends who you think would be interested in helping out.

Thanks a lot……

For all of you who know me, you know that I keep in touch but I am not one to send chain e-mails. In light of the current disaster in the Gulf Coast I watch the news daily. For the first time in my life I find myself actually feeling the impact of what I see in the news. There are events in history the I realize actually happened, 9/11, Tsunami,Florida floods, earthquakes, fires and other disasters around the world but with all of the information the television pushes out it is difficult to maintain your sanity and focus on so much disaster and distruction.
Today is a new day for me. As several of you know, I attended the Essence Festival this summer, in New Orleans. And thru a series of events I found myself having a once in a lifetime experience with a family I did not know prior to this event. My primary intent was to spend time with my best friend and classmate that I had not seen in about 10-12 years. Over the years she had become friends with a New Orleans native. As fate would have it the elaborate accomodations that were made to stay in the French Quarter fell threw. With the love, kindness and generosity of her family they opened their home to us and treated us like family too.
I now know someone that has been affected by a disaster. Fortunately, for this family they did evacuate. Many members of this family have found temporary refuge with other family west of the flooded area. With the mass devastation, what was a temporary refuge will now be a long term stay. There could be as many as 20-30 people in this single home, for an indefinite amount of time. I can’t imagine what physical and
financial impact this has made on her family. The amount of resources they would need are greater than any one person or family could take on.
What can I do to help these people? Is the question I continue to ask myself. So often we hear of fraud or delayed responses to get people the help they need. How do I know the resources will be spent to people I know need help?
Then I asked: What if I told everyone I knew and asked them to help? Would they be willing to send support to someone I know? Can we help other people?
The person I know is Tracey Taylor she is caring for several family
members in Fort Polk, Lousiana. Can you mail $1 to the following address:
Tracey Taylor
General Delivery
Ft Polk, LA 71409
For privacy reasons I did not include her home address
If you know of anyone I can help. Please let me know. I will do the
same for them.
Unlike most e-mails, you get that request you notified everyone you
know so you will be blessed or something good will happen to you. I only ask that you do what is in your heart. YOU ARE ALREADY BLESSED,AND YOU DON’T NEED LUCK. You are dry, at work or at home. Your stomach is full. Your thirst is quenched. Just the basics.
I know all of you, and know you that everyone of you have already
prayed for everyone affected by this disaster. Now you have a name, are there any more names?
There is no fancy way for me to end this. I am not real fancy when it comes to words. I just want you to understand what a great impact this small gesture would make to someone who could use your support.
