I REFUSE to forget DARFUR!

Have you every been consumed by an issue? I mean – like…so consumed that you wake up in the middle of the night thinking about it? You get headaches about it? That’s how I am about genocide in Darfur, Sudan. I can’t shake it…and truth be told I don’t want to shake it until something of substance is down to halt the madness that is going on there.

I’m not one of those guys that sends those emails that say “Forward if you love Jesus”, but I would almost do that with the issue of Genocide in Darfur. If you love Jesus and you understand Jesus to be primarily concerned with the poor, captives, oppressed, and overlooked (Luke 4:18) then you should be going crazy about this issue. That’s just my opinion. People say, “There are issues HERE. How can we direct our focus to other parts of the world when we got stuff going on here?” I hear you, but let the government bomb your neighborhood. Let militia men rape your daughters and kill your sons…then talk to me. I’m not a prophet, but I declare that if the “Body of Christ” doesn’t join together to end this madness in Darfur, then the shame of our inaction will be remembered by God. The “Body of Christ” will have to answer as to why it kept on having “church” when people in Darfur were crying out for help.

For those who would like to help I have something very easy for you to do. Please download this petition, sign it, and get 8 other people to sign it too. Once you have a completed form fax it to my friends at Africa Action so they can deliver the list to President Bush by September 8, 2005. Make copies if you want…just please do what you can to help. Forget WHAT WOULD JESUS DO….What are YOU going to do?

I preached a sermon on the last Sunday in July entitled “STANDING FOR DARFUR“. Admittedly, I’m not the best preacher in the world, but I really have a heart for this issue. I appreciate you taking the time to read this post and I thank you in advance for helping to halt GENOCIDE IN DARFUR, SUDAN.
