“I’m a Believer and a Realist…

-the two are not the same”, my favorite seminary professor, Dr. Jerome Ross from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, would often say. It’s a declaration that I have adopted and embraced thanks to my professor and it comes to mind right about now. Like many others in the country, I’ve been wishing and hoping that the price of gas would eventually come back down. However, that type of wishful thinking hasn’t proven to do anything to change the reality of the high cost of gas.

I took the picture of that BP Gas Price sign about a month ago now and sad to say – you’d be hard pressed to find gas in this area for anything below $3.00 these days. I received a forwarded email this week – a call to action of sorts asking people to boycott Exxon and Amoco – which are supposedly the two largest gasoline companies in the country. The line of thinking in the email is that if people boycott the largest two gas stations then that will drive the price down for all of the gas stations. I’m not sure if this initiative will work….well, the “Believer and Realist” in me just whispered in my ear and said that not enough people will abide by the guidelines of the email to really make a difference at the pump.

But if you do at least want to find out who’s selling the cheapest gas in your neighborhood then you can visit this website and put in your zipcode. It’s supposed to bring up the cheapest gas in your ‘hood, however, when I tried it today it was a little off. The volatility of gas prices right now probably makes it hard for even this site to keep up with, but it’s something.

Alright. I have to go now – my bus is coming.

Well there were only so many dinosaurs on the earth so there could only be so much fossil fuel. An interesting little movie related to it all to check out is
    ‘The End of Suburbia’
