Young Clergy for Social Change is on the road to credibility. On Thursday of last week, we were invited to attend and participate in the re-installation of Dr. William Calhoun as president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, the leading Christian advocacy group in Maryland. I was so humbled when asked to come and bring greetings on behalf of the group. I was also so thankful that Rev. Serena attended with me. Her nods of encouragement while I was speaking was REALLY a big help.
After the service we networked with many people and forged some great relationships. Prayerfully, if this thing works out right – one of the things I’m hoping for with Young Clergy (our unofficial nickname)is that we’ll become a sort of pipeline to IMA and Build, encouraging our younger peers in the ministry that ministry isn’t about billboards, conferences, tape “ministries”, and pseudo-spiritual soundbytes. Ministry is about being a servant.
Well, enough of my thoughts – let’s hear some of yours. Young Clergy for Social Change has created an online forum so that we can all dialogue and engage each other around these and other issues. We discuss social justice (whatever that means), youth culture, seminary, church (the good, bad, and ugly), events and more.
Check us out at www.youngclergy.com, take a minute to register (it’s FREE of course) and start posting your thoughts.
I hope to meet some of you in the forum this week.
