I was reading a Baltimore Sun article about legislation that would allow for a Boarding School to be built in Baltimore for “at risk” youth. The sponsoring foundation already has a similar school in Washington DC called the SEED school.
But I didn’t blog today to talk about the school. I want to talk about what Deputy Mayor Jean Hitchcock. This Morgan Alum impressed me with her bio, but shocked me with her comment at the hearing for the boarding school yesterday.
The Sun reported the following:
Mayor Martin O’Malley has wanted to bring such a school to Baltimore ever since he visited the Washington institution, Deputy Mayor Jean Hitchcock said yesterday. Tears came to my eyes when I saw the school,” Hitchcock told the committee, adding that the program has found a way to turn “burdens to society” into “wonderful human beings.
What the HELLicopter does that mean? Is she calling young African American males in Baltimore “burdens to society?” I can tell you a lil something about burdens to society just let me know when you want to take a ride down Gay Street to look at the vacant houses where drugs are stashed and the homeless seek shelter or Park Heights Avenue (near Belvedere) where intentional divestment and high unemployment can be seen with the naked eye.
I truly do HOPE that the Sun took the comment out of context and screwed up the quote. I’m TRYING to give the former NAACP COO the benefit of the doubt.

Hi Mallcom I find your postings informed and though provoking, i just wish I could get more people to see these posts and think long and hard about the position of Africans worldwide.
Keep going!
Hi Sabelo,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Please don’t make it your last time. I really am trying to help call together the community of critical thinking human beings who will dare to challenge the oppressive establishment.
I saw your blog as well. I like your “punch poetry” – keep punching!
