When people ask, "what is the biggest mistake made in the Black Panther Party?" I tell them very clearly that what we did wrong was to take God out of the movement. -Afeni Shakur (Former Black Panther and Mother of slain rapper,Tupac Shakur)
This article is on it. Sadly, this ignorance goes beyond the megachurch. I could talk about how churches don’t seem to be concerned with educating members about the political process or about how churches don’t attempt to lead people (socially) in the right direction even if it means saying the tough stuff, but this may just be my personal experience.
It really just upsets me to see young Black children messing up academically and getting hooked on illegal substances, among other things, and the church sits back and just watches from the sideline. Perhaps it’s just me, but I feel like we, as Black peaople, can do so much more. We are destined to be great. We won’t all be great in the same element, but we all have something to contribute. It’s as if, we don’t support each other anymore (but I’m not going there in this moment).
I wish more people in church would stop obsessing about pleasing the pastor, and start obsessing about building a better community starting inside of their church. Don’t get me wrong, I love my pastor, and support the ministry at my church, but I do get frustrated because we are not a church that interacts with the surrounding community.–>
