Quoted in the New York Times

Hey folks,

Just a heads up – I’ve been quoted in a New York Times article about African Americans being disillusioned with the voting process and expressing concern about whether their vote will really be counted in lieu of the irregularities experienced in the national elections (presidential elections of 2000 & 2004) and local elections (the Diebold machine debacles aren’t just occurring in Maryland).  [As you'll see, the reporter took some liberties in describing me though I was perfectly clear in telling him who I was and what I do.]

The Democrats have a tough job ahead of them being that disillusionment may keep some away from the polls come Nov. 7th.  The Maryland Democratic Party is experiencing problems in addition to the concern over voter fraud.  The party is wrestling with diversity these days and Black voters aren’t happy.  It seems the party is comfortable with African Americans being elected to local offices, but that appears to be it.  Former candidate for U.S. Senate , Kweisi Mfume, speaks candidly about his disappointment with the party and the states 10 Black Senators are grumbling as well.  The Maryland Democratic Party would be wise to read the handwriting on the wall.  Black voters in Maryland would be wiser to consider other options as it pertains to their political loyalty.  I know I have.  With nearly half a million registered independent voters in Maryland and a few Independent Parties (Green, Populist, and Libertarian) aligned with the values of the working, unemployed, and underemployed class; I think it’s time for a change.

Ironically, while Black Democratic Politicians are crying to the MD Dems for more opportunities for advancement; the Green Party has nominated an African American man as their candidate for Governor.  Go figure.
