How would Jesus react to the war in Iraq
Perhaps Jesus would do like Bishop Marc Handley Andrus of the Episcopal Diocese of California who joined an interfaith coalition and was arrested on December 7, 2006 for laying down in front of a Federal Building’s entrance way as an act of civil disobedience and protest of the ongoing occupation of Iraq and the staggering number of deaths associated with it. (Read the full story here)
To me, Bishop’s actions are an example of someone putting their Faith in Action. It’s one thing to spout scripture and loudly proclaim the tenets of one’s Faith - it’s another thing altogether to shut up and be moved to action by the spirit of your Faith.Â
Kudos to Bishop Andrus and may those religious leaders who aren’t active in protesting the occupation of Iraq and/or other gross episodes of injustice be inspired to stop preaching with their mouths and start preaching by their actions.Â
In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, “Preach the Gospel always and if necessary, use words.”Â
