Bishop G.E. Patterson (1939-2007)
Published reports indicate that the presiding Bishop of the Church of God in Christ, Bishop G.E. Patterson, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 of heart failure.Â
Bishop Patterson has served the Church for many years and he is the reason why I would rush home after my radio show at 8AM. I loved hearing his preaching on Sunday morning on BET. That quality of preaching is rare in a time when far too many sermons are decorated with empty religious cliches and pop culture quotes.
While I never had the opportunity to meet Bishop Patterson; there is no doubt that he will be sorely missed by thousands of people across the world.
Thank you Bishop for a life well lived and legacy worth aspiring to.

I am a Canadian listener - I have been listening to Bishop Patterson’s preaching on Sunday mornings for many years and of all the TV preachers he is the only only one that had the old time gospel truth. My household and other Canadian friends are also grieving his passing. We loved him as though we had seen him in person. We usually get the program on ‘BET’ but we are not sure if the memorial services will be available to Canadian viewers. Would you kindly let me know if this will be aired for Canadians also. He was surely an inspiration for me on Sunday morning as I get ready for Church I would turn up the volume on the T.V. so I can hear him. His voice has that ’special ring’ that compels you to listen as well as his personality. My condolence to the church family and to his wife.

I will truly miss Bishop Patterson…God has allowed us the opportunity to hear the Word of God spoken by one of his servants. I pray that those of us who heard the Word live and tell others about Jesus Christ. I know this is what Bishop Patterson would have wanted others to hear… For his message was about Jesus and Jesus alone. I also pray for his wife, family and the body of Christ because we all know the job of satan… to kill, steal and destroy… but with the prayers of Jesus and our prayers I am confident that the Lord will see them through… May God’s grace, mercy, and peace be with you all…. Deborah

I am a member of Temple of Deliverance and I have been listening to the Bishop since I was a little girl. A few years ago my mom died and I didn’t see how I could face tomorrow. I called the church and let them know that my mom had died and the fact that she had died of a sudden heartattack. Later on that day I received a call from NewYork from the Bishop and I couldn’t believe that he had taken time out of his tremendously busy schedule just to call me and offer his condolences. He told me that if he couldn’t attend her funeral that he would send representation. At the funeral that next Saturday two pastors from the church attended my mom’s funeral at her church just as the Bishop had promised. I thought that was pretty amazing and I will never forget the way he uplifted my spirits during one of the hardest times of my life.

Bishop G.E. Patterson (In Memorial)
Where are you going in such a hurry?
You’ve already missed most of the game,
Step aside my brother cause it’s not basketball,
Bishop G.E. Patterson is his name.
Gathering my stuff while checking my watch,
Later gators, down the steps, boom, out the door,
Finally realized I couldn’t make it safely in 20 minutes,
Well, that’s OK because he comes on again at four.
Reading the paper 3/22/2007 something caught my eye,
A section of the Cleveland Plain Dealer I usually glance bye,
G.E. Patterson, head of Church of God in Christ,
On Tuesday the old nemesis heart failure claimed his life.
A family tradition by a list of who’s who, he earnestly carried on,
Not just in the pulpit, soulfully felt when belting out a religious song,
Forty years in service to Christ Jesus, was really not that long,
Like the mighty wings of eagles his preaching was graceful yet strong.
Bountiful Blessings, not the magazine, but those he gave,
With spirit filled sermons, countless souls were saved,
A Stellar Gospel Award, was there anything he couldn’t do?
Received in January for “Singing The Old Time Way Volume 2.â€
The year 1957 in the Motown city of Hitsville, AKA Detroit,
Ordained as a church elder our Heavenly Father did anoint,
Be strong Mrs. Louise Patterson, his loving wife of 35 years,
For your lovely face is not the only one adorned with tears.
Let that water of sadness last no more than one or two days,
At Calvary Jesus bore our griefs as He took that stress away,
This is way to early; your husband had so much left in his store,
Believe & understand our Savior is now providing him with more.
Well, actually not always, I can see it going something like this,
No, no, no Jesus, let me show You again, preaching is not hit or miss,
Not just Ohio to Tennessee but encompassing the whole wide world,
Truly will you be a missed one Bishop Patterson, Gilbert Earl.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR THE GREAT AND WONDERFUL THINGS HE HAS DONE. WORDS CAN NOT TRULY EXPRESS THE GREATNESS THAT GOD HAS BESTOYED UPON THIS HUMBLE SERVENT; A MAN THAT I LIKE SO MANY OTHERS HAVE COME TO LOVE AND ADMIRE OVER THE YEARS FROM WATCHING HIS TELEVISED SERVICES. THOUGH NOT A MEMBER, I FELT LIKE A MEMBER AND PROBABLY WOULD BE IF I COULD, AND IF ASKED WHAT CHURCH GIVEN THE CHOICE WOULD I ATTEND- WITHOUT A DOUGHT IT WOULD BE G.E. PATTERSONS CHURCH; FOR HE WAS NOT ONLY A PREACHER OF PREACHERS BUT A MINISTER OF MINISTERS FOR HE HAD THE DEVINE ABILITY TO MINISTER AND TOUCH THE LIVES OF SO MANY IN A WAY THAT ONLY HE COULD, TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE IN THE LIFE OF HIS SERVENT- WELL DONE, WELL DONE. TO FIRST LADY LOUISE PATTERSON, FAMILY MEMBERS, CLERGY AND CHURCH FAMILY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALL IS MY PRAYER. WITH LOVE, YOUR SISTER IN CHRIST.

His successor at Temple of Deliverance must be one of an impeccable record with the highest of integrity this is even before the evidence of the annointing being on his life. Until then under the guidance of Sister Lou and the Right Reverend Jerry Maynard they will continue to do as Bishop Patterson desired. The chruch is strong.

Bishop Patterson will truly be missed by people all over the world.
I have listen to his Sermons for a number of years and found them
to be very uplifting. Seems like he knew just what you needed to hear at the time. I can recall his Sermon that he preach on Easter
Sunday morning of 2006, it was the most spiritual Sermon I can
recall him preaching. In times like these it is hard to find someone
who will preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, Bishop Patterson
did just that. I will continue to listen to the tapes that I have
purchased. I will remember his family & Church family.
May God Bless this ministry.

My regards to Mother Louise Patterson, a woman of poise, beauty and faith. Your honor that is gained through your character has been an eminent roll for the women of the Church of God In Christ. Therefore we pray your strength to continue to be the jewel that the Church Of God In Christ loves and respects. Our Leader and your husband will be dearly missed. He will be remembered for all that he has done (and that being much). His integrity and strength enabled our church to stablize and refocus. His ability and knowledge allowed the Church of God In Christ to develop a stronger sense of directions and growth. Morning Manna encouraged so many. This was his vision. But BBMinistries broadcasting is a World Wide ministry that has touched countless lives and this too was through Bishop Patterson’s vision… We Thank God for a man such as our Late Bishop G.E. Patterson. I pray that his memories will forever stay fresh in our minds and in our HEARTS. Thank you Bishop Patterson. God Bless Mother Patterson and Family.
