Dr. Jeremiah Wright on Hannity & Colmes
The center of the discussion revolves around the Black Value System that Trinity United Church of Christand its pastor, Dr. Jeremiah Wright, embrace as a congregation. (Needless to say this has only caught the eye of the national press because Barack Obama is a member of the church and his political opponents are attempting to shave off some of his White supporters)

I don’t have much time, but I thought that I’d be the first to comment on this interview. Let me first say that I am a “fan” of Dr. Jeremiah Wright (and I only use the term fan for lack of a better word at this time). I applaud the church’s “Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian” slogan, and I also have a great deal of respect for the Black Value System that he and Trinity have developed.
There is a great deal that I would like to say about all of that stuff, BUT to get straight to the point - he jacked that interview up! It was clear to me that he was still H-O-T about the Rush commentary and went on the show with a proverbial “axe to grind.” I think that the world (especially the white folks with genuine interest and Barack’s campaign camp) would have been better served by Dr. Wright “answering a fool according to his folly.” Had he calmed down and explained the Black Value System, it would’ve definitely been a teachable moment. He looked and sounded like one “mad black man” with limited control, and he is FAR from that type of brother.

Give me a break, dude. Dr. Wright is an obvious racial huckster and anybody who votes for a Presidential candidate who follows this guy is an idiot.

It is easy to throw crude stones behind the veil of anonymity. Dr. Jeremiah Wright is one of America’s greatest prophets who has and continues to be a model example of what true pastors who traffic at the intersection of public policy and theology should be.

Kwab - I type of my thoughts here only for the benefit of the online community despite the fact that we’ve already spoken offline about this.
I agree with you that Dr. Wright was obviously still angered by Rush’s commentary (Obamination) and perhaps even on the defensive given the show host and broadcast (Fox News) that he was a guest on.
I’m not sure if I would have agreed to be on that show. There was no way at all that Dr. Wright could have explained the position of the church and its Black Moral Values in the 6 minutes that was given him - especially given the fact that the overwhelming majority of viewers of that program and network are not likely to have advanced theological understanding or familiarity with the history and unique character of the Black Church in America.
Responding to Mr. Rush’s commentary is fine, but I would have chosen to do it on a show with a format that supported honest and critical dialogue as opposed to a show that makes its bread and butter off of controversial, emotionally charged, soundbyte saturated, conversation.

Don’t be so naive as to believe that we are not simply being distracted from the more important issues. We face the possibility of, once again, voting based on “media drama” as opposed to the issues at hand. Just read the words and values of the candidates themselves and then check to see if their actions match the statements. Then you vote on the issues, not all of the “toys” that the media puts out there for the “children to play with.”
Don’t be so easily distracted by the media…when will we learn??
