Gospel Rap as come a long way – from wack beats and corny lines to Da Truth – one of the baddest MC’s doing it. Aside from having crossover appeal; Da Truth has true lyrical skill and values theological integrity. His two previous CD’s made it to the favorites category on my ipod quick, fast, and in a hurry. He and the rest of the Cross Movement team are revolutionizing Gospel Rap. Despite what some of their critics say; these brothers are bringing countless people to the Faith and forcing those already in the fold to reconsider how they think about evangelism and even preaching in this rapidly changing society.
I will be one of the first in line when Da Truth’s DVD (Da Truth and Friends Live) and new CD (Open Book) drops this summer.

Well, you know I haven’t been able to stay away from some blogs. I’ve mainly continued to peek in and comment on you and Skeptical Brotha’s blog.
But getting to this post. I’m not into Cross Movement like that. But I absolutely understand their effect and the need of them serving in ministry. This is why I put up such a fuss on your Craige Lewis thread.
Don’t worry – I’m addicted to this blog too. It’s taken on a life of its own (smile).
As far as the Craige Lewis thread goes – do you know that that is one of the top two most popular posts on this entire blog! I’ve been blogging for more than 2 years now…and sometimes I touch on really heavy theological or political stuff, but like clockwork – the Craige Lewis thread remains at either the 1 or 2 spot. (I’ll let you guess what the other most popular topic is on the blog)
I didn’t know that it would still be going strong this long after I posted it. I imagine that if blogs existed when James Cleveland first hit the gospel scene or when Kirk Franklin first broke out – then we would read similar statements from those opposing the change to the genre.
No doubt Heb, Da Truth is off the chain!
Heber,
As Da’ T.R.U.T.H.’s manager I want to personally thank you for your support of the ministry–not his alone but being an advocate of the movement at large!
We consider Gospel Hip Hop to be the Roman road of this generation and are committed to reaching everyone we can through this art form. More importantly, however, we are committed to living lives of holiness, integrity and worship that speak louder than any word that comes out of our mouths.
We praise the Lord Jesus Christ for On Duty Christians such as yourself. Be blessed. Also, thank you for helping to get the word out about Da’ T.R.U.T.H. & Friends LIVE the DVD as well as the forthcoming CD Open Book. You might want to subscribe to his new podcast on iTunes. Here is the link: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=251011541
We will be updating it with sermons and videos frequently–the Father willing!
Also, PLEASE change the DVD trailer link you have uploaded on this blog to the following one: http://media.revver.com/qt;sharer=81656;download/234595.mov.
AND check out the new music video “Who Am I?” here: http://media.revver.com/qt;sharer=81656;download/235122.mov.
Stand firm and let’s continue to spread the fame of Christ together!
Heber, can you give me a clue of what the othermost popular subject is?
How can anybody call this ministry? (Anon 6 and 7)
Someone can call it ministry if they were ministered to by it. Just because it didn’t reach you does not mean you can just declare it ineffective.
“I call it ineffective. I will say it one more time ineffective. I dont ever want to feel that again as long as I live. Now! If they gave me free tickets to go to one of these concerts I wouldnt take them. I wouldnt even take a cd. I am very serious this. something is very wrong here.” Anon 9
Okay… You made your point. And my point was just because you think that it is ineffective does not make it ineffective for others.
My aunt loves Timothy Wright. I like Kim Burrell. My aunt thinks that Kim’s ministry is ineffective. Kim’s music blesses me. A friend of mine from college thinks that Karen Clark is a clown. I happen to love Karen’s music. My father loves the MIghty Clouds of Joy. I respect MCJ, but I find them completely uninteresting.
Look, my goal is not to tel you what to like or what not to like. I just think that the saints must be open minded about this issue. If you study the history of gospel music, what you will find is that many of the legends of gospel music were demonized in their time. James Cleveland, the Hawkins Family, the Clark Sisters, Thomas Dorsey, and so on… I remember when the Clarks were band from some churches because of their “worldly” singing.
Today’s gospel music is a fusion of many genres of music. Why embrace other sounds, but reject Hip Hop?
I’m interested in knowing what gospel artists do you approve of. Please share.
I love the real truth, and I even love people that don’t agree with me. Just because we disagree don’t mean that I can’t have love for you. It just means that we don’t agree. Plain and simple…
The question is what is “real truth.” As I was discussing with someone this morning, some people think that women wearing pants is a sin. That’s their so called “real truth.” I, on the other hand, think that’s utter nonsense. But with that being said, I still have love for my folks that think that my wardrobe is sinful. I will not withhold my love and kindness, just because someone disagrees with my version of “truth.”
Many of the differences that are being expressed about this subject are based only on cultural and doctrinal issues. It’s certainly not based on the Word of God. If it is, then support your claim.
The above response was prompted by a post that disappeared. I should have copied and pasted the comment within the body of my post.
The anon blogger said, and I’m paraphrasing, that we don’t love the real truth and that we don’t like people that don’t agree with us.
I don’t know what happen to that post. When I posted my comment, it mysteriously disappeared. Heber, do you know what that’s all about?
I’m afraid I do, Angie. That person has been banned from the site for calling someone “stupid” on the ex ministries thread, being deceptive while leaving “anonymous” comments (he or she tried to act like they were different people while flooding the site with comments in an attempt to show that a crowd agreed with him/her), and finally disrespecting me when I kindly asked that they refrain from the fabricating and name calling.
I concluded that their goal was not honest dialogue (or even respectful exchange) so I banned him/her. I was also prompted to create a “Ground Rules” page in their honor.
