I Am Pro-Earth

I didn’t know that it was Earth Day yesterday until late morning.  I heard something while flicking through the radio stations and then when I picked up a newspaper there was this big article and many ads about protecting the earth.

As a Believer, I feel a certain responsibility to be a good steward over the Earth and over the resources that God blesses me with.

The beautiful day yesterday (It was about 80 degrees and sunny) helped to cement the importance of Earth Day for me and propelled me to do my part to observe it.

I picked up trash that I came across (even if I didn’t put it there), I gave back the plastic bag at the supply store and carried my items out, and most importantly I made a commitment to reduce, reuse, and recycle in my home.

I stayed up late last night and read up on the recycling schedule for my area.  It turned out that today was my neighborhood’s recycle day for plastic bottles, glass, and aluminum.  I went through the house collecting all of my plastic bottles – big and small.  I placed them in their appropriate bag and set them out on the curb this morning.

I know this probably sounds like a small thing to some people, but I was so gratified by the process of carefully collecting my items and placing them outside to be recycled.

Now I have the “Save the Earth” bug.  Thursday, I’m setting my paper out to be recycled.  Sometime this week, I’m going to cut the grass and leave it on the lawn (one article said that the grass clippings nourishes the growing grass and you save plastic bags as well – which aren’t biodegradable), and I’m going to look into getting solar panels for my home.  (this won’t come over night)

If you’re not taking active steps to reduce your amount of waste, reuse the items in your home that you can, and recycle then I pray that you were prodded a bit by this post to do your part for the environment.

    Hey Hebe!

It’s not a small thing. It’s giant step. The little things we do add up significantly. I guess you can say I saw first hand the results of excessive waste. Their is a waste treatment facility not to far from where my parents live. The neighbors fought having it in the area but they company won. The changes that have come about in a little over twenty five years boggles the mind. The traffic hasn’t gone anywhere. It can’t since it’s not biodegradable. The land used to be beautiful now when I go back there I only see a sea of trash. We really need to think seriously about the impact the choices we make will have on our future. I do small things. I use cloth bags at the supermarket. When my daughter was a baby I used cloth wipes instead of the store bought wipes. With electronics I’ll choose refurbished products if they have a warranty. The Power Mac G5 and the additional notebook I bought HP dv6000t Pavillion are refurbished and came with the same warranty as a new system and they looked good as new when I received them.

One problem I’ve encountered is that some people will automatically dismiss the validity of conservation simply because the speaker happens to think differently (usually politically) than themselves. How ridiculous is that?
