Sunday Sermon: Pastors John Wright and Marvis P. May
I’ve always been interested in how much pastors decide to get involved in local politics. Some pastors choose to maintain public silence on political issues and others involve themselves extensively as the ones featured in this video.
Pastor John Wright (First Baptist Church of Guilford) and Pastor Marvis P. May (Macedonia Baptist Church) have a long record of being actively involved in the political arena. Here they team up to give their support to Baltimore mayoral candidate, Keiffer Mitchell. Widely believed to be the “white candidate” in the mayoral race, Mitchell obviously believes that he can gain some ground among Black voters by having Wright and May on his side.

Not so interesting, Heber. This is more upsetting than interesting. If these pastors are truly dedicated to uplifting the people, I cannot understand how they could stand in support of a candidate who has never done right by the people, mainly the poor people who live in his own district. Even now, all he talks about is how he’s going to recruit more police from outside of the city and pay them more money that they can take back to the county and Pennsylvania. I wonder what these pastors really stand for.

Delegate Carter told me that she is disappointed that Minister John Wright pledged support to her and now he is promoting Mitchell. Doesn’t he know that Mitchell is just as bad as Sheila Dixon. I heard Pastor Wright stood with Jill against illegal arrests and protested the way the police treated the death of Robert Clay. I know that Keiffer Mitchell did not do anything or say anything about crime, or bad ansd illegal arrest policies, or an investigation of the death of Robert Clay.
Heber, can you explain how a minister can rationalize dishonesty, betrayal, and deceit? Can you explain to me how Pastor Wright could support Mitchell with that campaign scandal still hanging out there and so many questions about Keiffer and whether his hands are clean? Can you explain to me how Pastor Wright can claim to stand for justice but turn his back on a true fighter for justice?

Supporting Mitchell thats very disturbing to know. The only thing he says is he’ll bring more police in bull crap. Do you know that the police that are suppose to protect the city of baltimore are not even from here so how do you expect them to care a ounce about our children, our mothers, our, future. We need JILL CARTER and i will say it everytime she cares for the people and we love her right back. Mitchell can’t even control his father let alone control the city of Baltimore. People WAKE UP!
