The next chapter for Rev. Heber Brown, III? Pastor.

By Heber Brown, III

It is with great excitement that I share good news related to the next phase of my service to God and community. I have recently been called to serve as the Pastor of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. (430 E. Belvedere Avenue, Baltimore, 21212) Pleasant Hope is a loving congregation situated not far from the intersection of Belvedere Avenue and York Road in North Baltimore City.

I am truly thankful to God for this opportunity to serve God’s people and the broader community in this way.

All are invited to attend my first Sunday at Pleasant Hope Baptist Church which will actually be this Sunday, June 1, 2008. Sunday School begins at 9:30AM and morning worship begins at 11:00AM. As we are anticipating a crowd, I invite you to get there a bit early if you do plan on coming.

For those who are unable to come, I certainly solicit your prayers for me and my family. I’ve had the distinct privilege of serving alongside many of you as we advocated for justice for Isaiah Simmons, III, the removal of liquor stores from Park Heights, a quality education for Baltimore City public school students, a peaceful remedy for the people of Darfur, Sudan, engaging in civil disobedience at the gates of the White House in reference to the American invasion and military occupation of Iraq, and so many other important issues. Now more than ever I need your support as I have become an heir to a great tradition in my family and community. The Black Church, in my estimation, is the most valuable institution in the African American community and I will strive to honor the legacy of the Great Ancestors and Elders who have gone before me. With your prayers and God’s guidance, I will be successful in my quest.

Let’s continue to work together in an effort to usher in the realization of the Beloved Community in this world – starting right here in Baltimore City!

May God’s Peace be yours,

Pastor-Elect Heber M. Brown, III
Pleasant Hope Baptist Church
Baltimore, MD

    Congratulations to Pleasant Hope!

One definition of hope reads like this, ‘hope is confident expectation’. Pleasant Hope can confidently expect that great things will occur in its future; my only hope is that they will be able to keep up with a living and breathing dynamo.

Pleasant Hope will be blessed to have a rising star shepherding them, one who clearly understands both the spiritual and social dimension of Christ’s ministry.

One caveat, be careful what you preach (no damning of America) for you never know whether or not you or one of your parishioners might be running for the office of President of the United States some day <(-:!

    Peace & grace

  11. FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF IGNORANCE
    by: David W. Johnson, Jr.

How can we really expect our children to be smart if adults are not?
Today’s adults have very little respect for themselves or each other
To show respect to our women and children, men has all but forgot
They have forgot how to treat Women as a Sisters or men as Brothers

Ignoring the English Language; instead, every other word is cruse words
Thinking it makes them look big when cursing or disrespecting one another
Instead of being like men and women, we are acting more like cattle in herds
Preparing children for the real world, adults seem to get farther and farther

Just recently, a prime example of bad, Detroit’s Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick
Such leaders are suppose to set positive example for our young people to follow
Instead, such phonies can be considered no more than the devil’s walking stick
We set bad examples but when our children commit crimes, we hoop and holler

In Gary, Indiana a mother shot and her thirteen-month of baby killed for a car
Tell me, just what kind of world are we living in and why are we not concerned
Let me assure you, if things are to get better we must do more than talk, by far
We start showing children love and support, love and support will be returned

Listen to male co-workers I am discussed by their lack of respect for women
If they have no respect for women, more than likely their son’s will have none
For guidance and leadership there was a time young boys could count on men
Today’s men teach young boys how to be criminals instead of how to have fun

Brothers and Sisters, is it so difficult to understand we are destroying ourselves?
Our enemies laid the trap for us to destroy one another and we fell right into it
They saw they could use us to kill us so they would not have to do it themselves
If children are to have a future, turning their lives around adults had better commit

This concerned writer is at a lost to understand why we are reluctant to help children
If we work together, on our children’s future adults could have more real influence
To turn their negatives into positive, give children someone on whom they can depend
Children will be destroyed if they continue “Following In The Footsteps Of Ignorance

    Change These Faces… …To These Faces…

Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank each of you for your prayers and support during this season of transition. We had a great day yesterday and many family/friends/loved ones came out to help celebrate the great things that God is about to unfold at Pleasant Hope. Though we only have one service on Sundays (11AM); I am feeling it this morning! (smile)

Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers.
