Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon’s House Raided by Investigators

It’s quite ironic that you have a very popular Mayor, who has in some aspects has carried out more tangible initiatives and seen more immediate results than her predecessor, Martin “Carcetti” O’Malley all of a sudden have her house raided by federal authorities. For anyone who has every studied Baltimore history would know that Mob Town was, is and will always be a political patronage town! Meaning that this is a city that was built on the patronage system of providing jobs and supports for the entities that supported you in your run for office. If you look at any major development in this city in the last 50 years (Charles Center, Harborplace, Harbor East) it all has taken place because of the political patronage system. Also the media coverage seems to be in concert with the government raid. This was pointed out to me by a friend that fromerly worked for the Sun. He pointed out that from the amount of articles and coverage that the Sun had in the paper on the day of the raid, it was obvious that someone had inside knowledge that this raid would be coming down and had material in the pipeline ready to go.
Nat Turner’s on to something when he suggests The Sun had background material ready to roll when the Sheila Dixon ’scandal’ series broke. There was just too much info coming out of the starting gate. One again, “official sources” have done the heavy lifting in news gathering.
If only The Sun had had the courage to bust the Bush cartel when it lied to take this country into war; if only it had gone after Enron & its smarmy ilk; if only it had done due diligence on the Halliburton sweetheart deals, etc. etc. Sheila Dixon’s obvious need for validation through material goods is very sad and disappointing; and her inattention to potential conflicts of interest in her personal and family dealings is disturbing. But on balance, the reporting on all this is way out of proportion to he offenses we know about so far. Dixon is disgraced; but will she be indicted? Not until The Sun milks the story for another couple of weeks. Then we’ll know…..
