Kucinich delivers a powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention. Not his best, in my estimation, but a great presentation nonetheless.
But what I’m really intrigued by is the revolutionary energy outside of the Democratic National Convention. Beyond the whitewashed theatrical production taking place on center stage every night, is a mass of people who are fed up with this oligarchical society and the fourth branch of its government – the media. I was accosted several times over the past 7-days by Obama fund raisers. Each one of them took for granted that I was supporting Senator Obama, they went right to lecturing me about the importance of supporting Senator Obama financially in deference to what I said. When I proceeded to ask questions, one stopped me again in mid-sentence and asked, are you going to give me any money or not?
Despite my respect for the Clintons, and their request to support the Obama campaign, with good conscience I simply cannot do it. I have said for years that one thing that bothers me about blacks who criticize white behavior is that once they get in power they do the same things. I cannot tell you how many blacks have told me that Senator Obama has to acquiesce, recapitulate (or as they implied -lie) in order to get elected, because that is the way that the American political process works. Shall we dispense with our values as others have done?
In Proverbs chapter 6, the writer wrote that there are 6 things that God hates, one of them is a liar, and the other is one who sheds innocent blood. Senator Obama is at least guilty in this regard, he plans to support a policy that sheds innocent blood, and he has come very close to lying on several occasions, if recapitulating and doing an about-face is the equivalent of lying.
My response to his behavior in this important area is this – then he is no different than his predecessors, ‘and the more things change the more they stay to same’. I am looking for someone who can be different, someone who is different. And sadly, now it is black Americans who have adopted wholesale the politics of greed, and are saying it okay to do whatever you have to do in order to gain the illusive prize of American dwindling power. I don’t accept it. Whenever we get a black president, please let either him or her be different from what we have experienced for over the past 232 years. I just cannot countenance more of the same!
I admire the Cynthia McKinney’s and Dennis Kuciniches of the world who speak truth to power. The policy of American exceptionalism is a dangerous and venal policy – Senator Obama has not rejected it! Jesus, Gandhi, MLK & others stood up for truth. They may not have ever been elected to public policy, however, each one of them were major contributors and the reason for astronomical changes that have taken place in the world!
