A great day for the elders and the kids. The elders fought tremendous odds, kept the faith, fought for what was morally right. Instilled that drive and faith in their kids, which some kept on the path while alot more strayed. The elders are so strong that even though the next generation let them down, they know they were fighting the good fight and they are still raising kids. Grands and Grown ones. This day was validation for all of their sacrafice and faith. This day shows the kids that they can and must be more. For the elders who have passed, this day shows that your work was not in vain. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

One day when I passed my car keys to the valet at the Five Star Harveys Hotel at Lake Tahoe Nevada, while at the same time a bellboy gathered my luggage and things from my rental car and transported them to my room, I thought about our black ancestors.

I considered how many of them could have never dreamed that the day would come when black people would drive up in a luxry automobile to a 5-star hotel with all of the accoutrements, and whites would be running around the car serving them. They would have never dreamed that their progeny would dine in the finest of restaurants or enjoy a respite in one of the hotel pools, or basque in the hottubs, or order roomservice and someone other than a black, if anyone would be serving them or waiting on them at all.

Each of us know sthat during their lifetimes, it would have been, with a few exceptions, the other way around, blacks would have been doing the serving.

Lake Tahoe that weekend like many weekends at Tahoe was filled with many celebrities. A famous NBA basketball player for example was getting into his car just ahead of me, having taken his keys from the valet, as I was about to stroll into the hotel in order to head to my room.

A grim thought just as suddenly came to mind, for I suddenly realized that many of our ancestors likely lost their faith in God given how they prayed so long and never witnessed any real changes during their lifetimes, for many of them who were born into slavery died in slavery.

I wished at the time that I could go back in time and tell them that it took another century or so, however, that circumstances eventually did change for the American black ‘in the land of the free and the home of the slave’!

I could only wish that they all died in faith, but I suspect that it would have taken a lot to keep on believing in God after spending so many years in bondage. Like many of you, I wish that they could have seen the day that a man who is partially black became the president of the United States of America. I wish that they could see all of what we have gained given the sacrificies that they made for us. It would appear that as of yesterday, all of us became Americans!

I will be praying for President Obama that he will not only seek it but that he will allow himself to be guided by the Divine Mind! His election is proof that all things are possible, and that even if we don’t see something during our lifetimes, it doesn’t mean that it will never take place. We are blessed, as Common Sense has already pointed out, to enjoy the legacy that our ancestors, foreparents and parents worked so hard for us to attain!
