Live From Revival In The Bible Belt: Night 3

Twenty pounds later…God is still good. (I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to get a peach pie on the plane.)

I spent most of the day today resting. Preaching every night of the week takes a tremendous toll on the body and today it seemed like the clock was moving extra fast. Tonight, I preached a message focused on the youth. This town is struggling with some of the same things that Baltimore is in terms of youth violence, gangs, and basically aimless living. There were many young people in church tonight and God gave the assignment to speak a word with them in mind. I pray that some seeds were planted that will yield fruit in the not too distant future.

I really wish that I could assemble the youth and have some real dialogue with them…really to do more listening than speaking. Adults do too much talking for or talking at young people. A good listening session would be a blessing to me as I strive to be relevant to an emerging generation of Believers.

Well, I need to get some rest. I’ll try to do better tomorrow night.

Reporting live from The Bible Belt, I’m a preacher in need of your prayers.

One Response to Live From Revival In The Bible Belt: Night 3

I believe that young, middle-aged and old people need to hear a relevant 21st century (post-modern) message. In their school classrooms , young people learn about thermodynamics, entropy, Kepler’s Laws, quantumphysics, theoretical physics …!

At church they hear messages that are taken from Constantine’s antiquated canon, messages that derive from individuals who never saw microbial organisms…! In a post-modern world, the two messages collide. We cannot live any longer in the past, and neither should we expect our young people to live in the past.

We should not take them backward, we need to carry them forward – it is time to upgrade the message!
