Rain of Fire in Gaza

Human Rights Watch, an Internationally recognized, independent human rights organization, just released a 71-page report which details in the most graphic way the devastating effects of white phosphorus on civilians and civilian property during the massacre of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The chemical agent which is banned by international law from being used in places where civilians may be harmed; was allegedly used by the Israeli Military. Organizations from around the world including the United Nations, The Association for Civil Rights in Israel, The Public Committee Against Torture, and many others are calling for a thorough investigation of this and other allegations of human rights violations. Of course, Israel denies any wrongdoing saying that most of 1300 Palestinians who were murdered during the massacre were “terror operatives”….even the children!

I am convinced that history will judge us harshly for the by-and-large willful silence of “good people” – nations of supposed superior morality who stood on the sidelines and did nothing while this was unfolding. In the words of Dr. King, “a time comes when silence is betrayal” and the global family has for far too long betrayed the Palestinian people.

Aljazeera English produced an insightful documentary on Israel’s use of white phosphorus and follows the trail back to the manufacturer of the deadly chemical agent. The trail leads back to U.S. Army Arsenal in Pinebluff, Arkansas. Many of the town’s people didn’t even know that the vicious assault carried out hundreds of thousands of miles away in Gaza, had ties to their backyard. Unfortunately, the controllers of American Media filter out anything that’s remotely critical of Israeli policy. Thankfully, the internet is helping to make that less of an issue.

Watch the reaction of everyday, regular people in Pinebluff, Arkansas as they are shown videos of the lives destroyed by white phosphorus and listen as they explore the complexities of how their “livelihood” is tied in to the production of the deadly agent.

After watching it, I pray that you would be moved to support real justice and peace efforts between the Palestinian and Israeli people. I’m sure that groups like the American Friends Service Committee and many other credible organizations would welcome your support.
