Human Rights Zone March

I just hung up with Ashley over at the United Workers and I must say that I am excited about Saturday, April 18, 2009. That’s the day of the B’more Fair which will conclude with a Human Rights Zone March. It’s going to be a day of celebration, solidarity, and social justice.

Of course, most things dealing with social justice get me excited, but I’m more thankful this time for an event that is shaping up to be more diverse than the gatherings that Baltimore is used to seeing. I hear that the Fair will have gospel choirs, mexican folk music, hip hop, spoken word, etc. It’s bound to bring together an eclectic mix of human rights activists, advocates, and concerned citizens. The social justice movements in Baltimore have been at best a fragmented force and the powerbrokers of this city have benefited from the fracture. It’s time for bridges of shared objectives to be built and I salute the United Workers for being among the trailblazers of bridge-building in Baltimore.

If you’re in the Baltimore area, I certainly encourage you to come out on Saturday, April 18, 2009 (Fair: 12noon – 4pm / March: 4 – 6:30pm) and experience a day of food, fun, and justice!
