According to published reports, Rev. Timothy Wright, gospel music legend, died early on Thursday, April 23, 2009. Many of you remember that last summer Rev. Wright lost his wife and grandson in a tragic car accident.

The songs of Rev. Wright can be heard in many a church on Sunday mornings. Classics like: “Who’s on the Lord’s side?”, “You must come in at the door”, “Come thou Almighty King”, and one of his latest hits, “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus”. (And who can forget “Trouble don’t last always” and “Yes, I’m a Believer“?) Chances are if you’ve gone to a Black Church in particular for any good length of time that you have heard a Timothy Wright song.

As a former gospel radio dj, I have many fond memories of playing Rev. Wright’s music early on Sunday mornings in Baltimore on WEAA 88.9FM and dancing myself happy in the studio while it played. He will be truly missed.

Please keep the Wright family and the Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ in your prayers.
