Today we honor the memory and legacy of Brother El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz; Brother Malcolm X. He is a Great Ancestor who continues to speak as clearly today as he did when he walked the earth to those who have ears to hear him. In visiting my alma mater for a number of weeks a couple of months ago, I bumped into students who were reading his Autobiography or a collection of his last speeches. It warmed my heart that that is still a remnant in the generation behind me that is listening to his voice. For me, he is one of the defining and shining examples of self-determination. He has an unyielding and unapologetic embrace of truth and justice. He also had the courage to publicly evolve which helped to crystallize his message to an even sharper degree.

Thank you Brother Malcolm for your love demonstrated by your life. We are standing on your shoulders. You are truly a Great Ancestor.

He was a great man and great thinker. I hope that there will be more people today that will take action like he did.

I wonder what he would have to say about the Obama candidacy? A collegian asked me earlier today, who was right, Malcolm or Dr. MLK. What was interesting about this collegian was he is a South Korean who studying in the USA. He is extremely found of El Shabazz and likens him to freedom fighters in his region of the world.

Oh that all of our boys and young men were Malcolms, instead of some pimps, gangstas, thugs …!
