Pat Buchanan: “This country has basically been built by White folks”

Pat Buchanan

In this 10 minute interview last night on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, Pat Buchanan, right-wing talking head on political TV, shared what I view as an extremely disturbing perspective related to Judge Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. I guess Rachel put it best when she said he “dated himself” back to the 50′s. His argument? That Sotomayor was only nominated because she’s a woman and Latina. There’s also another current in his rambling about standing up for discrimination against the White man in America. Where is Tim Wise when you need him!?

Anyway – check out the video. I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts:

Wow! You can shoot a ball or hit a hockey puck but you can't serve on the supreme court unless you are a part of the old boy network. Rachel did an outstanding job of articulating her argument and holding her ground. It's the dawning of a new day in the United States. Martin Luther King's dream of being judged by the content of you character rather than the color of your skin is threatening the security of the old boy network. If academic achievement and intellect were the markers for success at the highest levels of government than how do they explain George W. Bush? My point exactly!

Anachronistic Pat Buchanan, journalist, commentator and former speech writer for Richard Nixon has never changed. He once said that multi-culturism would be the death of the USA, he meant to say 'white hegemony'. Juan Williams once reminded Pat, in a completely different context, that his familymembers were immigrants to this country. Pat also believes in 'manifest destiny', and that God 'itself'', gave America to the white man (Pat isn't for white women either), Pat is either a reincarnation of some ancient Irish slaveholder or some other poor white trash that immigrated and excelled in this nation long before we got here!

Amazing that someone actually is willing to air this sort of blatantly racist view on national television. "Built by white folks"? Really?

Thankfully, Rachel corrected his not only racist, but historically inaccurate statements on the next night's show:
