Could this man be the next Baltimore City NAACP Branch President?

The young adult crowd of Baltimore is stepping up in a number of arenas to assert themselves as the next generation of the city’s servant-leaders. As the stalwarts of yesterday assume new roles as mentors and guides, the 30-ish age crowd is straining to speak up and be recognized.

Rev. Cortly C.D. Witherspoon is one of that number who is attempting to establish himself as the next President of the Baltimore City Branch NAACP. Dr. Marvin Cheatham, in deciding not to run for another term as president, has left giant shoes to fill. Witherspoon is hoping the shoes will fit his feet.

In this video he takes a few moments to share his vision for the NAACP and what can be expected if he is elected president.

Let's hope not. Witherspoon is not ready. The president of the NAACP should have a college degree, and be able to write and speak correct English. This IS America, and English is still the primary language. Additionally, the NAACP should focus on more substantive issues and Witherspoon does not have a track record of leadership on matters of substance. I do not believe Tessa Hill is the the right one to lead the organization either. I fear the NAACP is done. Cheatham did a disservice by stepping down not having prepared a strong leader to replace him..bye, bye NAACP.

I'd like to see Heber Brown as president!

Mr witherspoon cannot run for President of Baltimore city Branch because He DOES NOT have a current MEMBERSHIP. How can he expect to lead if he can't keep his MEMBERSHIP in order.

Prospects for next prez-GRIM. I’m sorry, Joe, but Tessa Hill-Armstead just has not demonstrated leadership on issues impacting Black Baltimore. I fear she is too wedded to her relationship with the sorry elected officials of the city and state. She works for the city does she not? Would she stand up? Where is she on the youth prison issue? No self-respecting black person, much less NAACP “leader”, could support Martin O’Malley, Stephanie rawlings-Blake, Lisa Gladden, Sandy Rosenberg, etc. This is just FACT.

The NAACP race for new prez is as bad as the governor’s race-choice is lesser of two evils. Rumor has is that one or two others may be running as well. The ones I’ve heard of are not qualified either, and likely merely attempting to pad their resume’s and use the position as a stepping-stone to try and win political office. Tessa will probably win. But, this is certainly not good news.

Members should find a way to get Doc Cheatham back (he did lead the organization to number 1 status in the country), or draft Heber Brown.
